Whitegate Vineyard is a beautiful six-acre vineyard off Occidental road in the Green Valley of Sonoma Counties’ Russian River region. The vineyard is planted to Martini clone Pinot noir, farmed sustainably utilizing organic methods. The wine came naturally through a slow fermentation driven by native yeasts in small open-top tanks. After fermentation, I gently pressed it to neutral French oak barrels to mature for eleven months before bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Exceptional color and energetic mouth feel lead the way on this young Pinot noir. Aromatics are fantastic, filled with strawberry, cranberry, rhubarb, and wet stone. It has expressions of very deep red fruits highlighted by notes of cranberry on the palate. There is very little oak on this wine allowing a medium body mouthfeel from the natural fine powdery tannins of the grape skins. Fresh acidity and extraordinarily pure flavors come together with a long ethereal finish. Ready to drink now for those who like youthful Pinot noir but will easily hold for 10-15 years.
